    Garden City, a village incorporated in 1919, is located in the town of Hempstead, in Nassau County, on Long Island, New York. Residents of Garden City enjoy great neighbors, a rich history and convenient travel options. Cities or hamlets within 1.5 miles of Garden City include Garden City South, Garden City Park, Mineola, New Hyde Park, Stewart Manor, West Hempstead, Herricks, and Williston. The name Garden City predates the Garden City Movement which had its genesis at the end of the nineteenth century. The Hempstead Branch of the Long Island Rail Road opened here in 1873. It still provides quick access to midtown Manhattan, which is only 18.5 miles away. Charles Lindbergh departed Roosevelt Field, in 1927, for his famous transatlantic solo flight. Long Island mega mall, aptly named Roosevelt Field, is built on that very same airfield. A Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train station is conveniently located in the village of Garden City, and travel time to Manhattan is approximately 45 minutes by rail.

    There are seven schools in the Garden City School District: five primary/elementary schools, a middle school, and Garden City High School. Adelphi University, the first four year college in Nassau County, is also located in the city. Garden City has local restaurants, pharmacies, grocery stores and is in such close proximity to so many other towns and villages that anything one might need is easily accessible. Leading industries in the area are professional, scientific or technical in nature. The fields of finance and insurance run a close second. Prominent occupations are in sales and management. The Garden City Hotel is a prominent landmark offering guests lodging in a hotel with luxurious old world charm. Many of the important, groundbreaking first flights of aviation took place on the nearby Hempstead prairie. The Cradle of Aviation Museum is located in Garden City and celebrates Long Island’s rich contribution to aerospace, and seeks to continue to inspire generations into the future.
