    West Islip is a splendid hamlet in the town of Islip, in Suffolk County, on the south shore of Long Island, New York. At the time of the 2010 census, West Islip had an approximate population of 28,335 residents. The total area of West Islip is 6.8 square miles and it’s in the 11795 zip code. Bordering West Islip are Babylon and North Babylon to the west, West Bay Shore to the east, Baywood to the north, and Fired Island to the South. Manhattan is 45 miles to the west. Accessibility to highways is good with Sunrise Highway and Southern State Parkway both running east to west through the northern part of the village and the Robert Moses Causeway running north to south on the eastern edge of West Islip.

    West Islip experienced tremendous growth from 1940 to 1970 as the access to public services grew with the addition of a fire department, post office, public library and hospital. West Islip became a popular suburban community. Robert Moses Causeway provides easy access to good fishing in the Captree Boat Basin and opportunities for swimming and sunbathing at Robert Moses State Park. West Islip also has its own beach and marina. Many civic groups help to make West Islip a wonderful place to live such as the West Islip Beautification Society, the Chamber Orchestra Society, and Youth Enrichment Services, just to name a few. The West islip Bicentennial Committee sponsors a county fair every September. Children in West Islip attend schools in the West Islip School District. Private schools are also available.
